Theaters present a unique challenge when it comes to providing proper ventilation as part of a building’s heating and cooling (HVAC) system.
First, their intermittent and generally evening occupancy results in peak ventilation requirements during times of off-peak thermal loading. In addition, theaters have several types of rooms besides the main auditorium, including lobbies, projection rooms, and restrooms, which have their own ventilation and temperature requirements. Proper humidity and pressure control between these areas requires special attention.
Theaters that use conventional air conditioning to control space comfort for patrons are only doing half the job. Humidity, not just temperature, has an important impact on human comfort. Conventional air conditioning systems are not designed to control humidity. As circumstances vary within the building or outside temperatures rise and fall, conventional air conditioning can not keep up. To meet customer expectations, the air conditioning is set at a lower temperature. This, “overworking” of the air conditioning increases energy costs, operating costs and makes the movie theatre unpleasantly cool. Despite all of these adjustments, the attempt to control humidity fails and uncomfortable movie goers are so cold they are putting on sweaters in the summertime.
Munters dehumidification products can lower your space humidity, reduce energy costs, all while increasing patron comfort.
